India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced that an Indian fugitive who had been sentenced to death in absentia by a Kuwaiti First Instance Court in 2012 for murdering his sponsor has been arrested recently after it had convicted him at the time for the murder of his Kuwaiti sponsor.

According to a CBI spokesman, the Indian convict is identified as S.K. Rana. The statement indicated that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs had contacted his Indian counterpart in late 2016 and sought the extradition of the fugitive to Kuwait within the framework of the exchange of criminals agreement concluded between the two countries.

India and Kuwait will work for the extradition of the fugitive convict to complete his trial in Kuwait. On February 29, 2012, the Kuwaiti Criminal Court of First Instance had sentenced the accused to death in absentia.
