The Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) launched a public awareness campaign titled ‘For the sake of Kuwait’, which aims to raise awareness among people about the need for cooperation among various sectors of society, including the government, businesses, civil society organizations and the public, to prevent and fight corruption.
Expounding on the campaign, Assistant Secretary-General at the Prevention Sector at Nazaha, Eng.Abrar Al-Hammad said, “Corruption has many features and forms. Fighting it is the responsibility of not just Nazaha, but also that of everyone in society. One of the aims of this ‘For the sake of Kuwait’ campaign is to create awareness of this social responsibility.
She explained that the campaign is based on three main axes — raising public awareness on Kuwait’s strategy to enhance integrity and combat corruption; educating people about the mandates of Nazaha and its areas of work; and, educating people about the importance of fighting corruption, enhancing integrity and transparency, and understanding the risks of corruption and ways to prevent it.
Highlighting that the participation of the public, both citizens and residents, is essential to fighting corruption, Eng. Al-Hammad stressed that knowledge and awareness of the activities of Nazha and its mandates would enable the public to interact with the Authority and serve as informants of corruption and corrupt practices. Increased awareness would also commit the public to following rules and regulations and not incurring penalties for breaching the law.
She added that the general concept of the campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of public interest over individual interests, as well as the importance of integrity, transparency, and ethical practices as a line of defense against corruption.
“Preventing corruption ensures the rational management and optimal use of state resources and property, which then creates more confidence in national efforts and contributes to a better environment for doing business. It attracts foreign and local investments, enhances economic competitiveness, and advances Kuwait’s ranking on all global indicators concerned with fighting corruption, and helps realize the vision of New Kuwait 2035,” said Eng.
