Efforts to intensify the digital transformation of government services are in place following the confirmation of the Director-General of the Central Agency for Information Technology, Haya Al-Wadani, as included in the government’s work program for the 16th legislative term 2022-2026, which the agency was assigned to accomplish.
During the workshop, titled “Guide to Suggested Classifications for Government Services” on Wednesday, held under the patronage of the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Rana Al-Faris, with the attendance and participation of officials from more than 53 government agencies at the Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, Al-Wadani said in her speech that the workshop seeks to draw an accurate road map to unify efforts in order to reach a consensus that pushes forward building a comprehensive and integrated guide to government services.
Al-Wadani explained that the initiative to digitize government services, which was mentioned in the first axis of the economic and financial reform program, has been assigned, and the responsibility of supervising it was given to the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, with the Central Agency for Information Technology being the affiliated entity responsible for its implementation. This means that assigning the Agency the responsibility of digitizing government services was accompanied by drawing an accurate roadmap towards building a comprehensive and integrated guide for government services.
In this regards, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, Dr. Khaled Mahdi, said that Kuwait is currently on the 46th place in the United Nations e-government development index. He said that Kuwait aims to reach 30th place in 2024-2025, pointing out that the economic and financial reform axis in the government’s work program consists of 29 initiatives divided into four goals. He explained that the general vision of the state, according to the government’s work program, is the sustainability of social safety through the axis of economic and financial reform, which includes many important initiatives.
Moreover, Mahdi also indicated that the economic and financial reform axis similarly includes improving the business environment through three main pillars linked to the government’s work program, which are developing and improving a specific mechanism for land allocation, digitizing government services, and supporting the private sector by attracting direct investment by international companies, as well as, establishing special economic zones.
