The Council of Ministers decided, today, Monday, that 9 months after receiving the second dose of the anti-Coronavirus vaccine, the booster dose is mandatory for travel.

This confirms what was published by Al-Qabas yesterday about Kuwait tightening measures to confront the spread of the new mutant Omicron.

A source told the daily in the event 9 months have passed since the second dose, the person is considered not fully vaccinated, and therefore cannot travel, if not fully vaccinated unless he/she receives the booster dose of the approved vaccines.

The Council, during the extraordinary meeting today, said the decision will be implemented as of Sunday, January 2, 2022

After the extraordinary Cabinet meeting this afternoon at Seif Palace headed by the Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, Minister of Health, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah stated the following:

At the beginning of its meeting, the Cabinet discussed the developments of the global epidemiological situation due to the accelerating spread of the new mutant of the Corona virus (Omicron) in many countries around the world, and in this regard, the Cabinet heard a detailed explanation given by the Minister of Health, Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah on the latest developments in the health situation in the country, which is witnessing stability, praise be to God.

The Council also took note of the existing precautionary efforts and measures to contain this mutation and maintain the stability of the health situation in the country.

Then the Council of Ministers considered the recommendations received from the Ministerial Committee for Corona Emergencies, and the Council of Ministers decided the following:

A – In view of the noticeable increase in the number of infections in a number of countries in the world, the Council of Ministers called on all citizens and residents to limit travel to cases of necessity only and to continue cooperation and adherence to health requirements and precautionary measures so that we can all pass this stage with the best results – God willing.

B – Assigning field committees and teams to stress and ensure the application of health requirements to limit the further spread of the Corona virus and maintain the stability of the health situation in the country.

Regarding the procedures to be followed for those coming to the country:

A – Conducting a PCR test 48 hours before arrival, to prove they are free from infection with the Corona virus.

B – Home quarantine for a period of 10 days after arriving in the country, with the possibility of ending the quarantine before that in the event the PCR test performed after at least 72 hours from the time of arrival proves negative.

C- The decision is effective as of Sunday 2/1/2022.

Regarding the controls and conditions applicable to the vaccinated people:

A – The Council was informed of the decision of the Minister of Health to consider every person ‘not vaccinated’ if the third booster dose of the vaccine approved by Kuwait is not taken nine months after after receiving the second dose.

B – Assigning the concerned authorities to implement what was stated in the decision of the Minister of Health, and every provision that contradicts the provisions of this decision shall be repealed.

C – The decision is effective as of Sunday 2/1/2022.
