Information security and programming experts have warned of a phenomenon they described as “dangerous”, represented by the penetration of cameras that are installed in different places of the house, including bedrooms, due to ignoring to change the user name and password, and explained that the cameras come out of the factories with a familiar user name and password. They are internationally recognized, and must be changed after the cameras are connected to the Internet.
Experts pointed to a local Arabic daily that this phenomenon, and many users forget to take this step after installing the cameras, warned that “ignoring or forgetting this change enables any programmer from anywhere in the world to enter these cameras” and control them, and get access to private contents.
At the same time, they stressed the need to stay away from cameras of unknown origin with simple encryption.
Six precautions to be taken while installing these cameras:
— Change the password and username.
— Activate the two-factor authentication feature.
— Do not connect cameras to the Internet except in cases of travel outside Kuwait.
— Stay away from cameras with poor encryption.
— Choosing a password and username that are difficult to predict.
— Do not install cameras in private places.
