A recent study found that a new vaccine that stops the development of Alzheimer’s disease may be the “beginning of the end” for this disease, which affects millions of people around the world.

The study was conducted on mice and concluded that the experimental vaccine not only “removed harmful deposits from the brain, but also prevented behavioral changes that usually affect Alzheimer’s patients.” The source described the results of the new study, which is still ongoing, as “promising,” reports Al-Rai daily.

The British newspaper “Daily Mail” said that despite the development taking place, these treatments only give patients a few extra months of “healthy life”.

“If the vaccine proves successful in humans, it would be a huge step towards delaying or even preventing the disease,” said Dr. Shih-Lun Hsiao, a cardiovascular researcher at Juntendo University in Japan. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 50 to 70 percent of dementia patients worldwide.
