Blood Donors Kerala (BDK), Kuwait Chapter a social media fraternity, was honored for the second year in a row in recognition of their philanthropic work done in promoting voluntary blood donation among the Kuwaiti community.  The BDK Kuwait team was honored at a function organized by the Ministry of Health as part of World Blood Donor Day Celebration 2019.

Representing the BDK Kuwait team was Prashant Koyilandi, Sarath Kattoor, Rameshan TM and Jai Krishnan, who received the award from Fawaz Al Rifai, Undersecretary of Medical Affairs of the Ministry of Health, Kuwait.  Blood Transfusion Department Director Dr. Reem Al Radhwan emphasized the range of activities of the BDK Kuwait team organized in 2018 and 2019.  During the period, BDK was able to supply 1400 bags of blood and 200 units of platelets to the Central Blood Bank via 14 blood donation camps in and outside the Blood Bank in collaboration with various community organizations and establishments.

The representatives dedicated the award to all their blood donors and supporters as well as other people involved in BDK. They stressed that it would not have been possible without the wholehearted support of their patrons, the whole volunteers of team BDK, annual sponsor Unimoni, the campaign supporters and the blood donors, who have always volunteered on request and donated selflessly.

They went on to thank the Blood Transfusion and Administration Service, Kuwait especially the Director and Manager as well as all the staff members for considering them for the recognition. Also, for the whole-hearted support towards the requests for blood drives and other related activities.

Blood Donors Kerala, founded in Kerala by Vinod Bhaskaran, a social activist in 2011; today, is actively involved in voluntary blood donation campaigns in ten countries, including Kuwait.  In Kuwait alone, there are about 50 full-fledged coordinators and over 4000 registered blood donors available in this arena.
