Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait observed Shahid Dibash and International Mother Language Day 2019 at the Chancery on 21 February. The event was conducted in the presence of embassy officials, officials of the Bangladesh Military Contingent, Bangladesh Biman, members of the community and representatives of the media.

Bangladesh Ambassador H.E. S.M. Abul Kalam, along with officers of the Embassy placed a wreath of flowers in front of temporary Shaheed Minar (Martyrs Monument) to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives during the Bengali Language Movement demonstrations of 1952. Then, the Bangladeshi Ambassador hoisted the National Flag at half-mast ceremoniously in the presence of embassy officials and a large gathering of members of the community.

The main program started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Special Dua and Munajat were offered seeking divine blessings for the souls of the language martyrs’ and prayed for the continued progress of the country. The messages given by the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were read out by Officers of the Embassy. Md. Anisuzzaman, Counsellor (Political) anchored the entire program.

The discussion took place in a very lively atmosphere as a good number of participants from the community took part. They highlighted various important events that took place before and after the language movement. The Bangladeshi Ambassador Kalam, in his speech, highlighted the significance of language movement and the formation of the subsequent mass movement that led to the emergence of independent Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi Ambassador Kalam recalled with great reverence the greatest Bengali of all times, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  He pointed out that after independence, Bangabandhu made Bangla the State Language and also delivered his maiden speech in Bangla at the 29th session of the United General Assembly on 25 September 1974 to introduce Bangla to the world.

He urged all Bangladesh nationals to work unitedly for the benefit of the country and asked community members in Kuwait to abide by the rules and regulations of the State of Kuwait. He thanked the Government and people of Kuwait for their continuous support for the Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait. Finally, refreshments were arranged for all the guests.
