Celebrating 51st Anniversary of Independence and National Day
Bangladesh Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Major General Md Ashikuzzaman held a reception at the Crowne Plaza hotel last week to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.
In his address to the distinguished gathering, including the Chief guest for the occasion, the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Ali Hussain Ali Al-Mousa, Ambassador Ashikuzzaman reiterated that his country and Kuwait enjoy deep and historical relations of friendship and brotherhood, as the people of Bangladesh will remain grateful to Kuwait as it is the first Gulf country to recognize Bangladesh after its independence.
He pointed out that the two countries have maintained continuous and sustainable strategic communication in diplomatic, economic and cultural affairs, and over time the relationship has been developed and strengthened in various sectors.
“Bangladesh became a joint partner of Kuwait against foreign aggression and Kuwait’s liberation struggle in 1991. And from 1991 until now, the Bangladeshi military unit in Kuwait has contributed more than 5,000 members effectively in every arena under the Kuwait Bonurgothon operation,” said the envoy. He stressed that the government of Bangladesh is committed to continuing to strengthen bilateral relations with Kuwait in all fields, noting that Kuwait is a development partner of Bangladesh in the Gulf region through the Kuwait Fund and other agencies.
He praised the support of Kuwait’s leadership, government and people for their continuous support for the members of the community living in Kuwait, and stressed that the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries will reach a higher level under the dynamic leadership of both countries.
Elaborating he said that Bangladesh has achieved tremendous success in various areas of social and economic development including poverty alleviation, education, health, human resource development, women’s empowerment, reducing child and maternal mortality rates, increasing life expectancy and increasing per capita income. “We are obligated to make all our efforts to maintain peace and stability around the world, he said, noting that Bangladesh at present is the largest troop-contributing country in the world under the blue helmet of the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
Ambassador Ashokuzzaman also called on all the citizens of Bangladesh who live in Kuwait to contribute to the revival of Bangladesh as golden Bangladesh as it was dreamed of by the father of the nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On the occasion, he mentioned that the independence of Bangladesh and this year’s National Day are of special significance given that Bangladesh celebrates this historic day with the expanded celebration of the ‘Year of Mujib’, the centenary of the birth of our father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as the golden jubilee of independence and the National Day of Bangladesh.
