The Audit Bureau has warned against a repetition of the Mubarakiya market fire scenario in the Braieh Salem project, especially in light of the failure to impose the necessary fines on the maintenance company for failing to comply with the security, safety and firefighting work requirements.

In its annual report on the observations that marred Kuwait Municipality contracts for 2020/2021, the Bureau stated that it was discovered during the field visits to the Mubarakiya market, Shuwaikh Beach and Braieh Salem that the company did not take the necessary measures in the area of security and safety requirements, in addition to firefighting procedures in Braieh Salem.

He pointed out that the municipality did not impose the necessary fines of 20 dinars per day from the period of commencement of work on May 11, 2019 until the date of the field visit, in implementation of clause (20/2) of the document, which provides for the application of a fine of 20 dinars per day for not observing security and safety conditions in accordance with the administration’s instructions
