In what could be construed by some people as a conflict of interest scenario, a sitting member of parliament has purchased all buildings of the Anwar Al-Sabah Complex lying in the heart of Kuwait City. The purchase could be linked to government plans to demolish the old shops along Fahd Al Salem Street and reconstruct the area as a new Central Business District.

Real estate sources have hinted that the purchase, which has been brought through mortgage with a local bank, could be directly in the name of the parliamentarian or through a proxy.

The complex, which has been lying vacant for ages despite being in the central business area, is located behind the long line of shops to the right of Fahd Al-Salem Street as you enter Kuwait City from the Sheraton Circle, and is adjacent to the prestigious Al-Salhiya Complex.
