The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council recommended, in its meeting held on Monday, headed by member Dr. Hassan Kamal, that the issue of historical buildings affiliated to the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters be referred to the Kuwait Municipality executive body before issuing any licenses to demolish them that have been built for more than 30 years, and not to issue any new licenses for buildings surrounding historical and heritage buildings that are registered with the National Council.
The committee stressed the need for coordination and cooperation between the municipality and the National Council for Culture when it comes to amending the Antiquities Law issued in 1960, and called for intensifying activities in all buildings and heritage and historical sites, and strict application of security, safety and firefighting procedures in all these 36 buildings and sites distributed over different provinces.
