Following the Council of Ministers’ designation of five different parties to establish the one-million-square-meter recreational park project in Wafra, citizens and residents who are eager to experience recreational parks, gaming facilities and other developmental projects may be able to enjoy the largest amusement park in Kuwait soon. The park will feature recreational centers, sports activities, restrooms, and an animal and fish reproduction area, according to a special report in an Arab daily.

The source also mentioned that officials are set to speed up the completion of the project as it would serve as an outlet for families, as well as, an opportunity to develop the area. A citizen living in Wafra was quoted in the paper saying he was hoping for the quick implementation of the recreational park because Wafra is currently not only a farming area, but is also an agricultural and residential area. He added that residents are very optimistic about the new government, thus, they are hoping that this project will be established without any disruption or delay from any party, as was the case in previous years. He also said that the park, in addition to other similar projects, would benefit the people living in the area as they need such services, calling for officials to also look into the other sectors, such as health, hygiene, security maintenance, and all other basic services.

On the other hand, a farm owner in Wafra believes that parks are useful for citizens, and that they will reap good financial returns to the country. He added that the park is necessary to serve all the people of the governorate and the country in turning Wafra into an integrated service area. Meanwhile, another citizen demanded the immediate completion of the park, the establishment of an integrated zoo, as well as the construction of large commercial complexes and markets to meet all the needs of the region’s residents and people across the country. The respondent added that during springtime, Asian expats, diplomatic corps and several Arab communities visit the place to obtain information on the agricultural abundance, particularly the cheap prices of seedlings, palm trees and other crops and plants. He mentioned that there were many citizens who made parks in their own farms and paid huge sums of money to develop them, but during feasts and official holidays, these parks could not cover the large crowd of visitors.

Other countries have already established such vital projects, and for a short period of time, said one citizen, adding that the project is vital in serving Kuwait as a whole. He is hoping that such a project, along with other developmental projects, will also be completed in the Abdali farms in the northern region of the country. He also believes that Wafra should be an integrated area in all respects and services, adding that this project is an achievement for Kuwait and for its people, while hoping that it will be a destination and outlet for people in nearby areas, as well as a competitor to neighboring countries. There are citizens hoping that more attention would be given to Wafra, especially on cleanliness, and for the Ministry of Works to amend dilapidated roads and maintain them well. They are asking the Ministry of Interior to provide sufficient patrols, especially in the evening, to maintain security and prevent quarrels, thefts and other security problems.

Another resident of the area said that the project will be one of the vital areas in Kuwait that provides food security from vegetables, meat, animal and poultry products, and in the event of the completion of the project, hoping that the existing stores will be distributed to the citizens who can innovate through this project in order to benefit the citizens in any way possible.

The respondents are also expecting the development of other projects next to the park, such as an entertainment city, as Wafra constitutes a large segment of citizens. According to them, Wafra used to be a farm for Asian workers only, but the current situation has changed, as Wafra is now close to five residential areas in the past couple of years. The residents would also like the construction of a vegetable market, as well as other diversified economic, tourism, recreational and agricultural development projects in all areas of Kuwait to serve the residents in particular and all the people of Kuwait, in general.
