The Deputy Director-General for Projects Sector Affairs in the Kuwait Municipality, Eng Nadia Al-Shraideh, was quoted as saying the municipal solid waste treatment and utilization project is one of the most important projects in the field of infrastructure, because it contributes to improving the solid waste treatment system in the State of Kuwait.
Al- Shraideh said, in a letter addressed to the Director-General of the Municipality regarding waste recycling projects and its uses, said some MPs have submitted proposals regarding waste recycling and treatment projects, reports a local Arabic daily.
The following are the proposals:
01 – A proposal for a law establishing a public joint stock company in the name of the Kuwait Waste Recycling Company.
02 – A proposal for a law establishing a joint stock company to establish a waste recycling plant.
She added the Environment Affairs Department has requested the introduction of a project to treat and benefit from municipal solid waste in Kabd site, to be run on the PPP (public-private-partnership system, as it is one of the most important projects in the field of infrastructure that contributes to improving the solid waste treatment system in the State of Kuwait, and its consequent development in economic and environmental performance.
It aims primarily to protect the environmental system and natural resources, and to provide and produce an alternative source of renewable energy through waste burning using the latest methods and the production of electrical energy, in addition to the following objectives:
- Treating municipal solid waste and benefiting from the largest possible amount of its components
- Reducing the depletion and waste of lands currently used for landfill
- Developing a security system for solid, liquid and hazardous waste management to ensure reducing pollution levels resulting from waste using traditional methods
