Assistant Undersecretary for Water Projects Sector Hammoud Al-Roudhan

Assistant Undersecretary for Water Projects Sector Hammoud Al-Roudhan affirmed water resources and their value as an invaluable wealth, and Kuwait represented by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, is keen to participate in the Arab Water Day, which falls on March 3 of each year.

Al-Roudhan said in a press statement, that this celebration is held under the slogan “Conserve water to achieve sustainability” and “we take this opportunity to remind our Arab peoples and those concerned with water affairs in the Arab world of the importance and value of water resources and that they are the source of life, reports Al-Anba daily.

He added, that “our Arab countries suffer from a water shortage, and are ranked last in terms of the availability of fresh water resources, and the per capita share of water is the lowest internationally compared to other regions of the world, which puts us in front of major challenges compared to the population of the rest of the world, and the reasons for these are multiple and overlapping, some of which have natural, environmental and climatic dimensions, such as the presence of most Arab countries in arid and semi-arid climatic areas, and others are due to economic and social reasons.

He pointed out that this gap is widening year after year, and the Arab countries have made great efforts to confront this problem, and set priorities in the distribution of water resources and rationalization of their use, in addition to the localization of the techniques used in the field of preserving their water resources, and to achieve what was stated in the objective.

The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, stipulates “ensuring the availability of water and sanitation services for all and its sustainable management.”

Kuwait has attached great importance to the issue of water and the importance it deserves, as most of the Ministry’s strategies and action plans include many activities dealing with the issue of water.

He continued saying, Kuwait has cooperated with all Arab and international organizations, in addition to its participation in Arab, regional and international meetings concerned with water and the environment, and its contribution to enriching and exchanging scientific knowledge and experience, working to improve social behavior to deal with these vital issues, raising awareness of their importance, and contributing to the dissemination of successful experiences and their dissemination to benefit from them.

During more than 70 years, Kuwait was able to secure its water needs through desalinating sea water in multiple ways, which made Kuwait one of the best countries in the world through the quality of drinking water it has produced, according to the reports of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

He stressed the importance of consuming water responsibly and preserving it without wasting, making the best use of water resources and preserving them from pollution, and changing the individual’s behavior when it comes to consuming and saving water.
