Secretary-General of the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations, Dr. Fawaz Al-Rifai official channels of communication have been established with some countries including Sweden, Australia and Singapore to send Kuwaiti doctors on scholarships.

In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony that was organized by KIMS Al-Rifai announced there are a number of agreements being prepared, including an agreement with the British Royal College of General Practitioners and a similar agreement with the Royal Irish College of Radiology, reports a local Arabic daily.

He added that the relationship with Canada is close and constantly flourishing, dating back to the eighties of the last century, pointing to an increase in the number of scholarships for Kuwaiti doctors to Canada, in medicine and dentistry.

He stressed that there is an increase in enrollment in subspecialty programs in Canada, pointing out that the renewal of the KIMS institutional recognition from the Royal Canadian College of Surgeons, which he called an unprecedented step and the first of its kind for the region.

He explained that this step means that the training that the doctor receives in Kuwait is equivalent to training in Canada. In turn, the CEO of the Royal Canadian College of Surgeons, Dr. Susan Bruce announced the visit of more than 80 ‘fellows’ from the Royal College Canadian College of Surgeons to Kuwait during September and October, 2022 to take specialized exams, in addition to the presence of additional program accreditations in progress, and several faculty development courses and workshops are scheduled to take place.

Dr. Susan Bruce, praised the “successful partnership with the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties”, applauded the great progress that has been made and the achievements made by “KIMS”.

“Together, we are working to improve postgraduate medical education in Kuwait as well as the Gulf region and in Canada,” she said, noting that there is a common goal of “the constant quest to prepare our specialized doctors to meet the ever-changing healthcare needs of our patients.”

“The past two years have been challenging, however, as we have demonstrated the resilience and unwavering commitment needed to educate our resident interns, support fellow faculty members and of course serve our patients,” she explained.
