The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the restart of Kuwait International Airport for 24 hours a day, starting on March 7, Al Qabas reported.

The Director of the Air Transport Department, Abdullah Al-Rajhi, said in a letter addressed to a ground services company that Al-Qabas obtained, that operating companies have been informed to begin providing the department with requests to amend the time slots to start regular operations at the airport.

In this regard, a responsible source confirmed to Al-Qabas that the airport is operating during the current period from 4 am to 8 pm, while the operations are suspended from 8 pm to 4 am including a halt to commercial flights, with the continuation of travel by air cargo flights. This step aimed to reduce the presence of Ministry of Health (MoH)’s medical staff attendance at the airport to continue the health precaution formalities for all arrivals.

The source added that medical teams are currently working alongside private laboratories, to conduct PCR tests for all arrivals to the country, explaining that starting from March 7, private laboratories will take over the responsibility of testing arrivals with MoH functioning in a supervisory capacity so only the laboratories work around the clock.

The source said to the daily that there is no link between the start of regular operations at the airport around the clock to the return of expats via commercial flights from high-risk countries, stressing that the decision to open the airspace for the expats return requires official approval from the Council of Ministers.
