Former member of the Arab Air Transportation Committee (ITF) Yasser Jumah Al- Hai warned of an economic disaster and collapse of the air travel sector if the 14-day home quarantine condition for travelers continues to be in effect, reports Al- Anba daily. He pointed out that the movement of the Kuwaiti economy is almost paralyzed due to the absence of a major component of its recovery.

Al-Hai remarked that it is unacceptable to request a PCR test, and then undergo another test inside Kuwait and impose a 14-day quarantine, as many have opted to refrain from traveling, amid weaken interest due to these conditions.  Elaborating further, he stressed that this procedure disrupts the work of the employees in both the public and private sectors, when they are forced to be under quarantine and obligated to sit at home, which in turn impacts the interests of their clients as the employees. He shared that the PCR test will be accepted and re-conducted after a week to validate the results thus rendering the need for strict measures as pointless.

Al-Hai highlighted that Kuwait has banned more than 30 countries including places from where a  large number of expats workers live in the country.

Pointing to an unpredictable future, he added, “In the event the ban continues, the series of losses will continue, and we will be unable to predict what will happen if things get out of control as we may not be able to control the situation then”. He concluded by urging the government to review procedures, ensure a PCR test can be conducted at the airport, ease the restrictions, and revitalize the air travel sector.
