The Ministry of Education is facing a new problem in the area appointing cleaners because they apparently do not meet certain conditions stipulated in the contract although more than 3,500 male and female workers have applied for the 2,100 positions.

Educational sources told Al-Jarida the ministry is seeking to solve the crisis according to the fixed-salary contract system, but what stands in the way is one of the conditions which calls for high school certificates or higher to be eligible to work which means their appointment cannot be accepted by the committee which is looking into their applications.

The sources pointed out the total number of applicants has exceeded 3,500 while those who meet the conditions do not exceeded 350 applicants so far, stressing that the ministry cannot secure the required numbers of cleaners until now, unless an exception to this condition is made.

The sources explained the schools suffer from a severe shortage of cleaning workers as schools are currently resorting to hire cleaners affiliated with the Kuwait Municipality or workers available ‘in the market’ and although this is a violation, the school administrations are forced to do this due to the lack of cleaning workers in some schools.
