A birthday party was organized by some female employees for a colleague in the NGO Department, Ministry of Social Affairs, but the attendees were referred to the Legal Affairs Department for investigation, on the grounds of breaking health requirements and not adhering to the rules of social distancing.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative Planning and Development, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Head of the Committee for Follow-up and Monitoring of the Implementation of Health Procedures and Conditions at the Ministry of Social Affairs Abdulaziz Sari, told Al-Jarida, “The gatherings and celebrations are an explicit violation of the administrative circular issued recently regarding adherence to health guidelines for dealing with the Coronavirus.”

He stressed that those who organized the party will be referred to the Ministry’s legal affairs for investigation, for being neglectful and exposing themselves and others to the risk of contracting the virus.

Sari indicated that the aforementioned circular banned all gatherings, including celebrations, and stressed the need to follow the rules of social distancing in workplaces of at least 1.5 between individuals, and considered that what happened in terms of celebration and gatherings is a clear violation of the circular, which would expose staff to the risk of the disease.

He pointed out that, according to the circular issued recently by the Civil Service Bureau, there is a gradation in the penalties for violators, beginning with a warning, followed by a one-day salary deduction, rising up to other penalties commensurate with the violations and the extent of their recurrence, not exceeding 15 days at a time.

The committee had earlier referred 17 employees and supervisors who violated the regulations inside the ministry’s headquarters by failing to follow social distancing, and not wearing masks.
