The residency visas of some expats has fallen through, and continues to end daily, despite online services for renewing work permits and residency permits for expats stuck outside the country in light of the coronavirus pandemic and especially to alleviate troubles due to the closure of airports and the difficulty of returning to Kuwait, Al Qabas daily reported.

The statistics of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) issued today, Friday, revealed that 935 residency permits for expat workers outside the country had fallen within 10 days, due to the failure of their sponsors or their companies to renew their work permits.

According to the statistic, the total number of residency permits cancelled for workers since the new Ashal system was introduced on January 12 reached 2,716 for several reasons, including 197 due to deaths and 1584 who wished to depart the country, while about 30,000 expats renew their work permits.

Qualifications accreditation

Regarding the decision requiring accreditation of expats’ academic qualifications as a condition for renewing work permits, according to statistics, the total number of certificates approved through the online system since introduced on January 12 this year, has reached 5,354 university degrees.

The total number of companies benefiting from automated services totalled 29,534, while 14 services provided garnered interest from companies, including vehicle registration, signature approval printing, clearance certificates, employment lists, qualifications approvals, and work permit renewals.
