Official figures revealed that more than 83,000 domestic workers have left the labor market in two months, either due to loss of residency visa from expiry or non-renewal by their sponsors, or because they departed from the country permanently, causing a sharp decline in the number of domestic workers in Kuwait, Al Rai daily reported.

According to the figures issued by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), the number of domestic workers decreased from February to April showing a decline of 11.59 percent.

According to April’s statistics, the figures indicate that the total number of domestic workers registered in the Ministry of Interior stood at 636,525 as compared to 719,988 in the month of February.

In the same context, the statistics of the Department for Regulating the Recruitment of Domestic Workers for the month of April revealed that there were 19 complaints from an employer against a recruitment office or company, 95 complaints from a worker against an employer, 162 complaints were referred to the judiciary, 115 complaints of absconding domestic workers were referred to the judiciary, and 97 complaints were made by employers against their domestic workers. In addition, there were 123 complaints that were resolved amicably between the parties, and 32 complaints against sponsors for holding passports, which were returned to the domestic workers.
