The Ministry of Health announced 791 new coronavirus infections, raising the total to 57,668, while 3 deaths was reported raising the number fatalities to 402. Of those infected, Kuwaiti nationals accounted for 459 cases (58.03 percent), while 332 non-Kuwaitis (41.97 percent) contracted the virus, ministry spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad told KUNA.

The figures include people who have had sustained contact with infected individuals and others whose source of infection is currently under investigation, added the spokesman. The spokesman went on to reveal that some 24 people had completed their quarantine periods at the country’s designated facilities, however, they are required to self-isolate at home for no less than 14 days upon exit.

He added that 142 cases are currently in the intensive care unit, while the number of active cases stands at 9,721, saying that Kuwait has ramped up its coronavirus testing capacity with 4,341 tests conducted in the last day, out of a total of 449,525.

Meanwhile, some 648 people were cured of the virus, pushing the total number of recoveries to 47,545, he added. He reiterated the strict need to abide by health precautions and guidelines as outlined on the ministry’s official media outlets, urging citizens and expatriates alike that following social distancing rules is the only way to ward off the virus.
