The head of the dermatology department at Asaad Al-Hamad Center, Dr. Atlal Al-Lafi, announced that the center annually receives about 74,000 patients in various general and specialized departments.
Al-Lafi said in a statement to Al-Qabas daily, that “The center has a medical team that corresponds to cases that require dermatological consultation in the various 21 centers and hospitals in the Al-Sabah health region, on a daily basis.
She explained that the Ministry of Health is keen to introduce new, advanced and advanced treatments for the treatment of skin diseases, while the medical staff at the center is working to educate patients and their families on how to deal with diseases.
She mentioned that cases of chronic skin diseases constitute 3 to 5% of the total population, but the percentage of cases that need periodic follow-up, including psoriasis, bullous diseases — Bullous pemphigoid is a rare skin condition that causes blisters on your skin. It’s an autoimmune disease. Certain medications may trigger bullous pemphigoid, but healthcare providers aren’t sure exactly what causes it. It can be well-managed with medications — eczema, hidradenitis suppurativa and vitiligo, reaches 30% of the total cases in the center.
Al-Lafi pointed out the increase in some skin diseases during the summer, such as sunburn, fungal infections, skin exfoliation, rosacea, viral warts, and molluscum contagiosum, due to the large number of outdoor summer activities and the practice of swimming in public pools and the sea, which necessitates treatment and following preventive recommendations to avoid the recurrence of these cases.
She indicated that the Asaad Al-Hamad Center is one of the specialized centers that receive stubborn skin cases to reach a diagnosis using the latest methods, pointing out that the center’s future policy is to expand the creation of channels of cooperation with other related medical specialties, such as rheumatology, children, teeth, plastic surgery and the digestive system, in order to provide high-quality multidisciplinary medical services in one place.
She pointed out the presence of outpatient and specialized clinics in the center, phototherapy and skin correction units, and high-accuracy laboratory services, such as the immunology and fungi laboratory, biochemistry tests and contact sensitivity using a patch.
Dr. Al-Lafi, indicated that extensive and periodic scientific meetings were held, including dermatologists working in the Ministry of Health and the private sector, within the center, once every 3 months, to review and debate difficult and rare cases.
She stated that the center’s pharmacy has all medicines for skin diseases, confirming that some of them are available in Kuwait before they are available in some developed countries.
Dr Al-Lafi indicated that the center was established with a generous donation from the late Uncle Khaled Al-Hamad, as it was officially inaugurated under the auspices of the former Minister of Health Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Muhailan on 9/30/1996.
She said, through outpatient clinics, the center provides diagnostic and treatment services for referred skin patients from all regions.
