The Ministry of Health announced 740 new coronavirus infections, raising the total to 53,580, while 1 death was reported raising the number fatalities to 383.

Of those infected, Kuwaiti nationals (487) occupy 65.81 percent alongside non-Kuwaitis (253) at 34.19 percent, ministry spokesman Abdullah Al-Sanad told KUNA. The figures include people, who have come into contact with infected individuals, and others whose source of infection is currently being investigated.

In terms of health zones, 248 cases were reported in Al-Ahmadi, 165 in Jahra, 125 in Farwaniya and 115 in Hawalli, while 87 infections were recorded in the Capital, added the spokesman. As for the top six areas with the highest infection numbers, he listed Sabahiya with 38 cases, Sabah Al-Salem (31), Al-Qasr (29), Taimaa (27), Al-Oyoun (24) and Al-Qosoor (22). He went on to reveal that 157 cases are currently in the intensive care unit, while the number of “active cases” stands at 9,983.

Kuwait has ramped up its coronavirus testing capacity, with 4,121 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, out of a total of 427,006, added the spokesman. Meanwhile, some 527 people recovered from the virus in the last day, upping the total number of those to have overcome the disease to 43,214, he said. He reiterated the strict need to abide by health precautions, urging nationals and expatriates alike that following social distancing rules is the only way to contain the coronavirus.
