In light of the reliance of delivery companies on Indian labor to work in Kuwait in the home delivery sector, due to the low cost of their contracts compared to other nationalities, business owners said these laborers who are initially contracted to work in the home delivery sector tend to abandon their employers once the residence permit formalities are completed and opt to work in the construction sector because this sector has a high demand for laborers.
The association of home delivery owners told Al-Qabas that their dependence on bringing in Indian labor during the last period only increased in the number of runaways and said as many as 40 percent of the workers left to work in the construction sector especially after completing the driving license for motorcycles or vehicles formalities.
They mentioned that the slowness of absenteeism procedures that are recorded against workers and the weakness of procedures for controlling absentees has added to the woes of the home delivery sector which continues to suffer on a daily basis.
They indicated the importance of activating the supervisory role of the tripartite committee and intensifying campaigns against establishments that violate the labor law, especially delivery workers.
