Health officials said the Ministry of Health is fully committed to providing a comprehensive range of vaccines for children, starting from infancy and extending to their later years.

The ministry is currently taking steps to procure additional quantities of anti-rotavirus vaccines, which were introduced into the vaccination schedule during the third quarter of 2017, reports Al-Qabas daily.

This vaccine is designed to shield children from the virus that is responsible for a significant number of viral infections among youngsters.

The rotavirus is responsible for symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, and primarily affects infants and young children, usually between the ages of 32 weeks and 6 years.

Health sources indicate that the cost of these vaccines stands at 396,000 dinars, with current availability in healthcare centers. Additional quantities will be distributed to preventive centers and hospitals upon their arrival, aiming to provide vaccination for a substantial group of children at the ages of two, four, and six months.

These sources noted that the vaccines have an efficacy rate of up to 85% during the child’s first and second years of life. Should a child contract the virus after vaccination, the severity of the illness tends to be reduced if the child had been vaccinated in their earlier stages.

The administration of this vaccine involves oral drops. In certain cases, the vaccination might be postponed, particularly for individuals experiencing stomach and intestinal inflammations or those dealing with severe immunodeficiency. Additionally, if an individual has exhibited allergic reactions after a previous vaccine dose, vaccination may be delayed.
