A Kuwait Airways plane carrying 300 Filipinos, with expired residency permits, were allowed to leave the country for Manila, Philippines earlier on Friday without paying fines.  The flight is part of an initiative to encourage expatriates with expired residencies to leave the country without paying fines and have their travel sponsored by the Kuwait Government.

Expatriates were placed in housing facilities and offered meals until their departure,
with the possibility of returning to work in Kuwait after obtaining new residency permits.

The MoI had specified dates for every nationality with invalid residency permits to come forward and apply to travel on specific dates. The Filipino community can apply on April 1-5, the Egyptians on April 6-10, the Indians on April 11-15, the Bangladeshi on April 16-20, the Sri Lankan on April 21-25 and the other nationalities on April 26-30. The expatriates wishing to correct their residency status should pay the fines, the ministry underlined.
