The bloodshed caused by repeated violence has opened the wounds of society – the society that has been ravaged by the murder of a mother by her two daughters in the suburb of Doha the day before yesterday and this murder was preceded by the murder of a family of three by an Indian in Ardhiya. These two crimes will not be the last unless the concerned authorities get to the root cause of these crimes.

A local Arabic daily reopened this bloody file and the numbers reveal a dangerous escalation in aggressive behavior including self self-immolation in a manner that rings alarm bells.

The daily quoting statistics said 30 premeditated murders were committed in Kuwait during the past 14 months, i.e. throughout the past year 2021 and during January and February in 2022.

Despite the high number compared to the population, the security efforts led to the arrest of the vast majority of the perpetrators of these crimes and brought them to justice to receive their just punishment. However, the increase in the rates of these recurrent heinous crimes raises several questions, most notably: Why did the murders increase? What are the reasons and motives? Where is the preventive security to prevent crime before it occurs?

An informed security source told the daily the felonies related to self-assault have increased significantly in recent times, as about 3,800 various types of felonies were recorded during the past year using various types of weapons, whether out of disputes, theft, honor or revenge or drug issues, or other reasons.

The source explained that misdemeanors significantly increased during 2021 and put the number at 21,000 especially using knives, and the ease of obtaining them from the market without supervision.

Psychologists and sociologists confirmed that the Corona pandemic is one of the reasons for the increase in violent crimes, but it is not the only factor, as there are other reasons such as the widespread use of social media and modern technology with all its violent manifestations around the world, and the extent to which parents follow up on their children and educate them about the danger of violent electronic games and their effects.

They added the patterns of education and the moral system play an essential role, and the educational curricula, societal culture, and the extent of awareness, are all challenges that require to be tackled by the entire community.

They added the Interior Ministry alone will not be able to confront the increasing number of crimes and violence which has become rampant in society, because fighting the criminal will not work, what will work is fighting crime and cutting the roots of its causes. They asked, ‘Can any country put a policeman at every corner and near every house, school or workplace’?

In addition, jurists pointed out that the entry of the female element into the line of murder is strange and requires a decisive pause, indicating that dozens of girls are accused of crimes of self-aggression. Lawyers confirmed that drug addiction contributed to the spread of crime, noting that recklessness of some young people, lack of legal deterrence, and nepotism have led to bloodshed due to most trivial of reasons.

Nine reasons that have contributed to commit crimes:

– The easy availability of weapons, especially knives

– Speech of violence through social media

– Some electronic games that encourage violence

– Weak family control over children and bad friends

– Weakness of the moral system and a decline in awareness and culture

– Increasing disobedience of children and disruption of family cohesion

– Divorce and inadequately attention to young people and adolescents

– The Corona pandemic increased the rates of aggressive behavior

– Absence of effective role models and widespread drug use
