The Public Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) revealed the authority from January 2020 to Jan 2021 had received 810 reports, indicating the exceptional circumstances left by the Corona pandemic had a clear impact on the form of corruption in terms of their mechanisms and results.
The authority stated in its last report 51.6 percent reports were received within its competence, in addition to receiving other complaints that the authority is currently studying; saying the Covid-19 pandemic led to an increase in crimes of corruption and with it increased efforts to combat it, reports a local Arabic daily.
The sources stated most of the reports that were submitted by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior and the Kuwait Oil Company adding the corruption files were referred to the Public Prosecution which included ‘crimes of appropriating public money, intentional harm and facilitating the appropriation of public money, and crimes of forgery, profiteering and making illegal gains’.
With regard to financial disclosures, the report revealed that there were 2,777 persons covered by the anti-corruption law who abstained from financial disclosure in 4 years.
