The decision to provide an extension to the amnesty period for residency visa violators, which ended April 30, has not been decided, the Ministry of Interior announced, reported a local daily. Thousands of expats came to the reception center, after undergoing medical tests.

Around 25,000 expatriates out of a total of approximately 1,60,000 residency violators purportedly in Kuwait benefited from the amnesty.  However, there are still illegal expats who refused to take advantage of the amnesty and are still hiding in residential areas.

A report was created on the issue, and presented to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh. Mentioned in the report that the dates for departure of the residency law violators to their respective homelands has yet to be specified and the challenges faced included maintaining order and providing appropriate care and housing.

The report also recommended not using all the shelters as they might be needed during emergency situations. Also, the daily reported that as some countries have refused to allow flights to bring in their citizens, the time limit may be extended for those wishing to leave.
