The demand for traditional or Islamic medicine services is increasing, according to the indicators of the World Health Organization, because of its therapeutic safety, which depends on the natural herbs described in the traditional medical heritage, and its combination with modern medicine.

Since the establishment of the Islamic Medicine Center in Kuwait 36 years ago, about 23,000 citizens and residents have visited it to receive treatment and treat their pain with dozens of natural herbal medicines and preparations that cover many common and chronic diseases, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The Director of the Center for Islamic Medicine, Dr. Manal Al-Matar said the center seeks to keep pace with the medicinal and cognitive needs of its visitors, and to introduce other types of complementary medicine, such as cupping.

The senior official emphasized that the center seeks to keep up with the medicinal and cognitive needs of its visitors, and to introduce other types of complementary medicine, such as cupping, as happened recently, pointing out that the outpatient clinics at the center receive patients referred to it from clinics and health centers, and patients can visit the center directly according to the diseases it treats.

Dr Al-Matar added that a file is opened for the patient, his medical history is recorded, he is clinically examined, his laboratory and radiological examinations are reviewed, or new tests are requested to reach an accurate diagnosis of his condition, noting that the center’s services are recognized locally and regionally, and are witnessing remarkable and remarkable development.

Regarding the latest developments in the work within the center, Dr Al-Matar pointed out the opening of the cupping clinic in October of last year, and it receives about 10 to 15 visitors daily, while the center receives more than 50 citizens and residents daily, noting the keenness of the center’s doctors to know the types of medicines that patients take, To avoid any side effects that may result when adding “herbal” supplements, while stressing the importance of the patient continuing to take his usual medications from outside the center.

There are currently 6 clinics in the center, with a future vision to increase them, as new specialties have been introduced, including cupping, Dr Al-Matar indicated.

Dr Al-Matar also indicated that the description of treatment differs according to the type of disease, not all diseases can be treated with herbal medicine or alternative medicine, but some diseases require certain medications or surgeries that may not be available in the medical preparations available at the Islamic Medicine Center, indicating that some of the medicinal herbs used are imported from India and Pakistan, and a few from within the country.

Number of patients who have visited the center

— 3,956 visitors in 2021, including 2,717 citizens.

— 2886 patients were admitted in 2020, including 785 residents.

— 5,282 in 2019, including 3,864 citizens.

— 4034 were admitted in 2018, including 1069 residents.

— 6,762 visited the center in 2017, including 3,318 citizens.

The Islamic Medicine Center is located in the Al-Sabah Health District. It is a medical, religious and architectural edifice that captivates the mind. It was opened in 1987 in the presence of His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad, and it was built at the expense of the late Khaled Youssef Al-Marzouq.
