Official figures issued by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) show more than 182,000 passengers used the Kuwait Airport between December 24 and December 31, including about 100,000 passengers leaving the country and 82,000 passengers returning to the country during the New Year holidays.

According to the data, a copy of which has been obtained by Al-Anba, travelers left for 34 countries on 1,670 flights including 837 inbound flights and 833 outbound flights.

It was remarkable to see during the current season, the usual tourist destinations favored by citizens did not top the list of the most traveled destinations, which is mainly due to the new Corona virus mutations, especially ‘Omicron’, which changed many citizens’ travel plans so the demand for travel to London and Turkey were at the bottom of the list. The destinations that topped the list were India followed by Egypt.

Six countries accounted for a majority of passenger traffic through Kuwait Airport during the New Year’s holiday travel season, as about 128,670 male and female passengers traveled to and from, making up 71% of the total passengers traveling through the Airport from 24 to 31 December, while a list of the most popular destinations for travel during the season were as follows:

India topped the list of travel destinations with a total of 34,340 male and female passengers travelling — 18,970 passengers leaving and 15,360 passengers arriving; Egypt ranked second with a total of 26,800 male and female passengers — 13,500 departing through and about 13,300 arriving.

Saudi Arabia ranked third; followed by the United Arab Emirates, in fifth place came Turkey and the United Kingdom sixth.
