Around 1,000 residency permits for expatriates stranded outside the country expire daily due to their sponsors or employers failing to renew them, reports Al Rai. This is despite the Ministry of Interior (MoI) allowing the online renewal of visas on the MoI website.

One reason given is that there are a lot of companies and employers, responsible for renewing their workers’ residency, who are also stranded outside Kuwait. As the airport activities is suspended, they are unable to return to the country. However, another segment failing to complete the renewal process are sponsors for their families and therefore, are unable to renew the residency visas. It has nothing to do with the MoI.

Expats with residency visas which have expired while they are outside the country, can’t return again except on a new entry visa, reports the daily. The status of these expats is different from the others who are outside the country for more than six months, as they have valid residency visas, as they were granted an extension until the end of the current year.
