The Council of Ministers during its meeting the day before yesterday has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with India on cooperation for hiring domestic workers.

According to informed sources, India stipulated in the agreement the age limit of minimum 30 years for new contracts and a maximum of 55 years. It also stipulated that the salary should not be less than 100 dinars per month which should be transferred to the worker’s bank account instead of paying cash.

Al-Qabas learned that the two sides have successfully approved the frameworks on the recruitment of domestic workers and one of the clauses say the contract must be approved by the embassy and by an accredited recruitment agency.

Moreover, the head of the Federation of Domestic Labor Recruitment Offices, Khaled Al-Dakhnan, told Al-Qabas “setting the minimum age limit to 30 years has reduced the total number of new contracts for workers coming from India.”

He pointed out that since the signing of the MoU, Kuwait has stopped issuing visas for those under 30 years old. In the same context, an official source at the Public Authority for Manpower said domestic workers can be recruited through 10 Indian offices.
