The Ministry of Health is preparing to start vaccinating children from 5 to 11 years old, to protect them against infection with Covid 19 and its variants.

Health officials told Al-Qabas the Ministry’s keen to vaccinate this segment after reports have been published in some countries about the increase of infections among school students especially those who are not vaccinated.

The sources stressed on the need to register on the electronic platform to vaccinate this segment to ensure “we do not return to square one of the repercussions of the pandemic.”

The sources revealed the rate of children infected with the Corona virus during the pandemic in the country ranged between 10 and 12 percent of the total recorded infections, and the officials demanded that residents and citizens cooperate with the health authorities to vaccinate children from 5 to 11 years old with the two Pfizer doses three weeks apart saying the vaccine is 90 percent effective and protects against mutants, including the Delta mutant.

The sources noted after registration the text messages will be sent to parents determining the time and location of the vaccination center.

The officials also pointed to the importance of wearing masks by schoolchildren inside schools including school compounds.
