New batches of domestic workers from Philippines arrive in Kuwait

Only a few Philippine recruitment agencies are approved to process job orders for Kuwait, as many remain on the ‘black list’ due to past issues.

In previous years, some Philippine recruitment agencies had their operations suspended due to neglect, abuse, contract violations, and worker fatalities, leading to a ban on job deployments.

New batches of domestic workers from the Philippines have arrived in Kuwait over the past few weeks, with deployments handled by authorized recruitment agencies.

In a brief interview, Marissa Fernandez, an officer at a recruitment agency in Kuwait, mentioned that the initial stages of the deployment process were challenging due to the required measures, which aimed to ensure better protection for both workers and employers. These measures included acquiring approvals for clearances and job orders. Fernandez added that the resumption of job deployments has given recruiters new perspectives, allowing them to scrutinize applicants more closely, such as prioritizing Filipino workers with prior overseas job experience. “Deploying domestic workers with overseas experience provides stability and assurance in their work,” Fernandez noted.

Currently, only a limited number of Philippine recruitment agencies have been approved to process job orders for Kuwait, as many agencies have not been authorized to deploy due to previous records that placed them on the black list. Agencies in this status must rectify prior issues in order to resume deployments and move to the “white list.”

In previous years, some recruitment agencies were investigated and had their operations suspended due to cases of neglect and failure to monitor their deployed workers. Some of these cases involved abuse, contract violations, and worker fatalities, which led to the banning of job deployments. The new stringent measures and policies are expected to yield better results.
