Nepal thanks Kuwait for standing by its people amid devastating floods
Ambassador Lamsal says no Kuwaiti nationals were among the victims; major international airports and tourist entry points remain operational
Nepal has expressed its deep appreciation for Kuwait’s solidarity and support as the country grapples with the devastating aftermath of severe floods that have claimed lives, damaged property and disrupted vital infrastructure.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Ghana Shyam Lamsal, said the messages of sympathy and support received from Kuwait and other friendly countries had brought comfort to the Nepali people at a deeply difficult time.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the opening of a condolence register at the Embassy of Nepal in Kuwait in memory of those who lost their lives in the floods. Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Nawaf Abdul Latif Sulaiman Al-Ahmad, together with a large number of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, attended the gathering.
Lamsal said the scale of international solidarity had deeply touched Nepal. “The Nepali people have been deeply moved by the solidarity, support and goodwill expressed by friendly countries and peoples around the world,” he said.
Kuwait’s support deeply appreciated
Speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Nepal, as well as the embassy community in Kuwait, Lamsal conveyed his sincere gratitude to Kuwait for standing with Nepal during the crisis.
“On behalf of the Government of Nepal, the people of Nepal and the entire embassy family, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of the State of Kuwait for its support and solidarity with us during this difficult moment,” he said.
The ambassador noted that the floods had resulted in significant loss of life and extensive damage to homes, property and important infrastructure.
For Nepal, he said, Kuwait’s response represented more than humanitarian concern. It reflected the depth of the friendship and goodwill that have developed between the two countries over the years.
Lamsal stressed that Nepal greatly values the sentiments expressed by Kuwait and other international partners at a time when the country is confronting the consequences of a major natural disaster.
No Kuwaiti casualties reported
Addressing concerns about Kuwaiti citizens in Nepal, Lamsal confirmed that there had been no reports of Kuwaiti nationals among those killed in the floods.
The ambassador also addressed concerns over the possible impact of the disaster on Nepal’s tourism sector, acknowledging that the floods could inevitably affect travel to some of the areas hit hardest.
“There will certainly be an impact,” he said, noting that tourist numbers in some affected locations could experience a temporary decline. At the same time, he sought to reassure prospective visitors that Nepal remains open and accessible.
Lamsal said the country’s major international airports, including Tribhuvan International Airport, Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara International Airport, continue to operate normally.
Several designated land entry points used by tourists travelling to Nepal by road are also functioning normally, he added, with no major obstacles preventing visitors from entering the country through these crossings.
Nepal remains open to visitors
The ambassador expressed confidence that Nepal would overcome the immediate challenges created by the floods and gradually restore activity in affected areas.
Tourism remains one of the country’s most important economic sectors, and Lamsal emphasized that Nepal’s principal travel infrastructure continues to function despite the damage suffered in specific flood-hit locations.
His message was ultimately one of reassurance: while Nepal is mourning lives lost and dealing with considerable damage, the country remains open, its major gateways continue to function, and its people are determined to rebuild.
For Kuwait, meanwhile, the expression of solidarity comes at a moment when Nepal is looking beyond the immediate disaster toward recovery — a process in which the support of longstanding friends and partners is likely to remain deeply valued.
