NCC to study columns discovered in Mubarakiya

Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture (NCC), Arts and Letters, Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar, highlighted the importance of studying the columns discovered in Mubarakiya Market to determine their historical value, noting that specialists in historical buildings and antiquities will investigate the matter more deeply, and the results will be announced later.

This came in a press statement by Al-Jassar following his visit with a delegation from the National Council, to the area that was exposed to the fire in Mubarakiya Market. The visit included a follow up on the post- fire project, in addition to verifying the columns that were recently discovered after they were buried underground.

Al-Jassar explained that this will be investigated by specialists in the sciences of historical buildings and antiquities in order to obtain more accurate results, and that the details of these results will be announced later.

The Director of the Gulf Consultants Office, Engineer Najla Al-Ghanem, explained in a similar statement that work is underway to rebuild the damaged area, indicating that the project is proceeding according to the specified timetable, as this discovery enhances the importance of the historical market.

This visit comes within the framework of the Council’s interest in preserving Kuwait’s cultural heritage, to rebuild the market in a manner that is consistent with its historical, cultural and economic role, and is considered one of the country’s prominent historical landmarks.

The delegation included representatives from Alghanim International and the consulting office, in addition to the acting Assistant Secretary-General for the Arts, Antiquities and Museums Sector, Musaed Al-Zamel, and a number of specialists to study the site and the discovered columns.
