Nazaha hosts sixth meeting to advance Kuwait’s anti-corruption strategy

Meeting serves as a key milestone in the nation’s ongoing efforts to uphold transparency, strengthen institutional integrity

The Higher Committee for the Leadership and Coordination of the Kuwait National Strategy for Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption convened its sixth official meeting (Session No. 1/2025) at the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha) headquarters.

This meeting serves as a key milestone in the nation’s ongoing efforts to uphold transparency, strengthen institutional integrity, and accelerate anti-corruption measures as part of Kuwait’s National Strategy for Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption (2019–2025).

The session was presided over by His Excellency Mr. Abdulaziz Abdul Latif Al-Ibrahim, Chairman of Nazaha and Chairman of the Committee. In attendance were high-ranking representatives from various government ministries, regulatory agencies, and civil society organizations, who all play a role in implementing and monitoring the strategy’s initiatives.

In his opening address, Mr. Al-Ibrahim welcomed the attendees and emphasized the critical importance of the meeting in assessing the strategy’s progress, identifying challenges, and coordinating actions to ensure its effective continuation. He praised the collaborative spirit and national momentum behind the anti-corruption efforts, acknowledging that the strategy—now in its sixth year—has yielded substantial accomplishments due to joint efforts between Nazaha, governmental entities, and community stakeholders.

Highlighting the collective progress made so far, Mr. Al-Ibrahim revealed that 89% of the strategy’s initiatives have either reached advanced stages of implementation or are undergoing final evaluations. This reflects a deepening institutional commitment across all sectors to uphold principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability.

During the meeting, participants reviewed key achievements from the past year (2024), including:

  • Legislative Advancements: Enactment and enforcement of pivotal transparency-related laws, notably the Right to Access Information Law and the Prevention of Conflicts of Interest Law.
  • Institutional Development: Launch of the “Adaa” project, which aims to strengthen ethical standards and professional codes of conduct across government institutions.
  • Digital Transformation: Significant progress in enhancing e-government services through the “Sahel” unified app, contributing to greater efficiency and accessibility.
  • International Cooperation: Reinforced international partnerships and engagements to align with global anti-corruption standards.
  • Financial Transparency: Ongoing improvements to the financial disclosure system, increasing oversight and accountability of public officials.
  • Whistleblower Protection: Concrete steps to implement mechanisms for safeguarding whistleblowers and encouraging the reporting of corrupt practices.
  • Educational Integrity: Targeted programs to embed values of integrity within the national education system.

A comprehensive visual presentation was delivered by the Director of the Planning and Follow-Up Office at Nazaha. The presentation provided an in-depth look at the strategy’s implementation matrix, showcasing performance metrics, milestone achievements, key obstacles, and forward-looking recommendations to enhance efficiency and impact.

The Committee concluded the session by formally approving the Fifth Annual Report (2024) of the National Strategy, incorporating final remarks and recommendations from stakeholders. The report was endorsed for official publication, ensuring transparency and public access to the results and progress made.

In closing, the meeting underscored the necessity of continued cooperation between Nazaha and all partner institutions to sustain momentum in combating corruption and promoting integrity. These efforts are in alignment with Kuwait’s international obligations and its long-term New Kuwait Vision 2035, which places transparency and institutional excellence at the core of national development.
