Municipal Council approves chalet removal for Jahra Waterfront project
The Municipal Council, in its main session today, Monday, chaired by Abdullah Al-Mahri, approved the removal of the chalets located between the borders of the Doha West Station (to the east) and the borders of the Jahra Nature Reserve (to the west), in preparation for the implementation of the Jahra Waterfront Project.
Moreover, the Municipal Council stated that the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Mishari, objected in the approval letter sent to the Council to the cancellation of the third clause of the Council’s decision regarding the removal of the chalets within the project.
Minister Al-Mishari explained that the presence of chalets poses a major obstacle in the implementation of the project required on the Jahra waterfront (the Corniche). Al-Mishari noted that the contracts for the exploitation of these chalets, which are managed by the Ministry of Finance, are temporary and regulate the obligations of the parties involved.
What’s more is that, Minister Al-Mishari stressed that these contracts grant the State the right to remove the chalets whenever necessary, in line with the requests of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Environment Authority.
In another context, the Council approved the recommendations of the Technical Committee regarding proposed amendments to the building regulations in agricultural and livestock areas, aimed at addressing the challenges facing these vital sectors.
The Committee explained that the amendments include a clear redefinition of the areas covered by the regulation to prevent confusion with other use areas. Additionally, the changes to the design of family rest houses limit them to one floor instead of two.
Furthermore, the Committee added that the amendments include increasing the permitted area and building height to achieve optimal usage, as well as expanding the areas allocated for storage in agricultural areas to accommodate seeds, agricultural products, and equipment. This addresses the real challenges faced by business owners in these sectors.
The Committee stated that the amendments include increasing the percentage of areas allocated for establishing natural reserves to support environmental efforts and stimulate environmental activity in Kuwait. They also include increasing the areas allocated for workers’ housing and its annexes in agricultural and livestock areas, which contributes to enhancing the efficiency of these sectors by providing a suitable living environment for workers.
To conclude, the Committee stressed that one of the advantages of the amended regulation is the clear separation between the classifications of livestock and horse breeding activity, providing better organization compared to the previous regulation.
