Mojtaba promises ‘inevitable’ revenge after father’s death

Iran’s supreme leader said Iran “demands” retribution for his father’s assassination in an airstrike. Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to “completely decimate” Iran should it attempt to assassinate him.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed to avenge the killing of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei, declaring that retaliation against the United States and Israel is “inevitable.”

In a written statement broadcast on Iranian state television, Mojtaba Khamenei said avenging the deaths of his father and others killed during the recent conflict was a national duty.

“We pledge to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars,” the statement said, describing revenge as the demand of the Iranian nation.

Ali Khamenei was killed in an airstrike on February 28 during the opening phase of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. Funeral ceremonies for the late leader concluded this week after several days of national mourning, dw.com reports.

The statement marks Mojtaba Khamenei’s first public message since his father’s death. According to US officials, he was seriously injured in the same strike, although Iranian authorities have not publicly confirmed those reports.
