MCI raids container, seizes 290 refurbished vehicle tires
Expatriate faces deportation
Inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry uncovered a container serving as an illegal workshop for refurbishing used tires, where worn tires were cleaned, restored, and prepared for resale as higher-quality products.
Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department, said the operation was carried out in cooperation with the Capital Governorate Criminal Investigation Department and the Shuwaikh Industrial Police Station following surveillance by the Capital Inspection Authority.
During a weekend inspection, authorities located the container sitting in an open dirt area, where workers were found storing used tires and restoring their appearance through cleaning and refurbishment to enhance their market value and mislead consumers into believing they were of higher quality.
The raid resulted in the seizure of 290 used tires, and legal action has been taken against those responsible in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Al-Ansari said the Ministry coordinated with Kuwait Municipality to destroy the confiscated tires at designated landfill sites to prevent them from re-entering the market.
He added that the Ministry of Interior has also been notified to take the necessary legal action against the expatriate responsible for the operation, including deportation procedures in accordance with applicable laws.
The Ministry of Commerce reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers and intensifying inspections to combat commercial fraud and prevent the sale of products that could pose risks to public safety.
