Model public restroom project proposed near Jahra Hospital to serve walkway users

In response to the growing need for public facilities in residential areas, especially near popular walking tracks, a proposal has been submitted to Jahra Governorate to establish a modern, integrated public restroom unit near the Al-Naeem Walkway, opposite Jahra Hospital.

The initiative, a copy of which was obtained by Al-Jarida, aims to address the shortage of public restrooms in the governorate, particularly in light of rapid urban expansion and the increasing popularity of open-air public spaces and walking areas among residents.

Described as a service and humanitarian project with a civilized identity, the proposed public restroom facility is designed to meet the highest standards of cleanliness, privacy, and accessibility. It will cater not only to users of the Al-Naeem Walkway but also to nearby residents and area visitors.

Key features of the project include separate men’s and women’s restroom units, dedicated facilities for individuals with disabilities, outdoor washbasins, on-site cleaning staff, a covered water tank and integrated sewage system, advanced lighting systems (indoor and outdoor) and surveillance cameras to ensure public safety.

The project also proposes the use of durable, heat- and humidity-resistant materials, and includes electronic doors, automatic sterilization units, and continuous lighting, reinforcing a high standard of hygiene and security. A symbolic fee structure may be introduced in the future to help cover operating costs.

The proposal states that the project is being studied with the support of key government bodies, including the Kuwait Municipality, ministries of Electricity and Water and Public Works and the Environment Public Authority.

Private sector cleaning and maintenance companies are also expected to participate in the project’s operations and upkeep.

The initiative is framed as a model that can be expanded and replicated across other areas in Jahra Governorate, emphasizing its role in improving infrastructure, supporting sports and leisure activities, and enhancing the overall quality of life for citizens and residents.

Officials noted that this project reflects state efforts to modernize public amenities and promote a healthier, more comfortable urban environment for all community members.
