MoCI targets rogue food trucks, threatens license cancellation

Site license issued by Municipality is mandatory, commercial license alone does not authorize operation in undesignated areas

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has reaffirmed that food trucks operating outside designated areas is a legal violation and may lead to license cancellation.

In coordination with the ministries of Interior and Municipality, a tripartite agreement has been reached to better regulate the spread of food trucks across Kuwait and enhance oversight.

Sources from Kuwait Municipality told Al-Rai that a “site license” issued by the Municipality is mandatory, and a commercial license alone does not authorize operation in undesignated areas.

Many truck owners have reportedly ignored their approved sites, creating overcrowding and disturbing nearby residents.

The Municipality clarified that it only grants up to two permits per approved location, and its role ends after issuing the site designation. Going forward, a unified regulatory mechanism will be implemented among the three ministries to ensure order and compliance.
