Minor injury reported after limited explosion at Salmiya power transformer

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced on Sunday evening that an engineer sustained minor injuries following a limited explosion during maintenance operations at the Ras M main power transformer in Salmiya.
According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Engineer Fatima Hayat, the incident occurred at precisely 6:11 PM. She explained that during scheduled maintenance, a limited explosion took place in one of the station’s components, leading to an estimated 25-megawatt loss in electrical load and causing a temporary power outage in parts of the Salmiya area.
Hayat confirmed that emergency response teams acted promptly, implementing all necessary technical and occupational safety protocols to contain the incident and protect both personnel and infrastructure.
She further stated that the injured engineer, affiliated with the Main Transformer Station Maintenance Department, received on-site first aid before being transferred to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital for further medical attention.
Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Adel Al-Zamel visited the hospital to check on the engineer’s condition and wished him a swift recovery.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining the stability of the electrical network and ensuring the safety of its workforce through continued adherence to safety and operational standards.
