Judge renews detention of accused in premeditated murder case

The Detention Renewal Judge has issued an order to extend the pretrial detention of the accused — charged with the premeditated murder of his wife in the Al-Mutla’a desert on the first day of Eid Al-Fitr — until May 18, 2025.

During the hearing, the defendant was produced before the court and formally confronted with the following charges — kidnapping by deception, possessing psychotropic substances with the intent to use and premeditated murder by intentionally deliberate running over the victim to kill her, reports Al-Rai daily.

The defendant has entered not guilty plea to all the above-mentioned charges.

Attorney Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan, legal representative of the heirs of the deceased, during a previous session before the Detention Renewal Judge had submitted a civil claim for 5,001 dinars against the accused. He additionally requested that the defendant’s release be denied and that pretrial detention be extended in light of the gravity of the charges.

The charges brought by the Public Prosecution allege that on March 30, 2025, within the jurisdiction of Al-Mutla’a Police Station in Al-Jahra Governorate, the accused willfully and with prior intent caused the death of his spouse.

The accused is alleged to have forcibly taken the victim in his vehicle under false pretenses, drove her to an undisclosed location, and deliberately ran her over, thereby inflicting injuries as detailed in the forensic report, which directly resulted in her death.
