Ministry overhauls foreign teacher substitution plan

An educational source revealed to Al-Rai newspaper that all those included in the substitute teachers’ lists are teachers with academic specializations facing a surplus in government schools.

  • The number of applicants seeking to work in the educational field reached 2,000, including male and female teachers from local contracts across various academic specializations

  • The Ministry of Education indicates a significant failure rate in the written tests and interviews, with only around five out of every 50 teachers passing them.

The Ministry of Education is currently reviewing the lists of substitute teachers for foreign nationals. The public education sector has finalized its administrative counterpart’s list of teachers for this academic year’s replacement plan. They will soon notify and officially approve these teachers with full awareness and understanding.

An educational source revealed to Al-Rai newspaper that all those whose names are included in the lists are teachers with academic specializations experiencing a surplus in government schools. The source indicated that “the public education sector has recently made some amendments to the lists (deletion and addition) and they will be officially approved soon.”

He pointed out that the number of applicants seeking to work in the educational field reached 2,000, including male and female teachers from local contracts across various academic specializations. However, the ministry has not yet filled a quarter of this number, indicating a significant failure rate in the written tests and interviews, as only around five teachers out of every 50 pass them.

He stated that the administrative sector discussed this crisis with public education to find appropriate solutions, as it is not plausible for all applicants to possess low academic qualifications, especially considering that they are graduates of colleges of education and basic education.
