“Minister of Social Affairs” lauds smart glasses invention revolutionizing communication for the hearing impaired
A significant achievement; as these smart glasses rely on augmented reality technology in converting sound into texts that are displayed on the lenses of the glasses. This enhances the learning experience and reduces reliance on sign language interpreters or specialized teachers.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, said on Tuesday that the invention of smart glasses by Kuwaiti engineer, Mohammad Al-Shammari, is a qualitative leap in supporting the rights of people with hearing disabilities, as it contributes in enhancing their independence in classrooms and reduces the barriers they face.
Al-Huwailah added in a statement to KUNA on the occasion of her meeting with engineer Al-Shammari, who presented his innovation dedicated to the hearing impaired students, that these glasses rely on augmented reality technology to convert sound into texts displayed on the lenses of the glasses, which contribute in improving the learning experience and reduces reliance on sign language interpreters or specialized teachers.
On an affirmative note, Al-Huwailah expressed her pride in supporting creative youth who contribute with their inventions, especially in improving the quality of life for the society.
She categorically praised the efforts made by Al-Shammari in presenting this national innovation that contributes greatly in facilitating the integration of hearing impaired students, into the educational process.
Al-Huwailah stressed the importance of supporting such innovations that enhance a comprehensive educational environment and play an important role in enabling students with hearing disabilities to receive education effectively, and thereby integrate more into society, saying, “This invention reflects the creativity of Kuwaiti engineers and their ability to provide innovative solutions that serve humanitarian and social issues.”
Extending her cooperation, Al-Huwailah stressed her commitment in providing full support for this invention, which represents a qualitative leap in the process of developing services provided to people with hearing disabilities, and her efforts to overcome all obstacles that may face this project so that we can see it implemented on the ground as soon as possible.
Reinforcing her commitment Al-Huwailah also emphasized her Ministry’s support for national efforts that contribute towards improving the level of care and integration for people with disabilities in Kuwait, noting the importance of partnerships and cooperation with all parties to support technical projects that serve the interests of society as a whole.
