MEW says energy purchase contracts from the GIA will end this month
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEW) was able to overcome the emergency shutdown of three production units at the North Shuaiba station with a production capacity of about 600 megawatts without resorting to programmed power outages and without affecting the network in general.
Sources in the ministry said that “the emergency shutdown of three production units at the North Shuaiba station did not affect the electricity and water network due to the drop in temperature, which led to a decrease in loads and the stability of the network in general.”
Loads reached 13,890 megawatts yesterday at a temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, indicating the beginning of the end of the peak season, which usually lasts until the beginning of October.
In a related context, the sources explained that the ministry will begin the annual maintenance program for the units in early October, in preparation for the next summer season, when the energy consumption rate is expected to exceed 18,000 megawatts.
The energy purchase contracts from the Gulf Interconnection Authority will end at the end of this month, expecting that the ministry will begin negotiations early next year regarding the purchase of energy from the Gulf countries that have an electricity surplus during the summer months of next year.
